After discussing the status of our blogs with both classes, it appears as though the criteria set by each section was very similar. As such, I have attempted to synthesize the new guidelines so as to streamline the standards & not hold each section to different evaluative measures. Therefore, the guidelines you see below, while not exact, resemble extremely closely those we formulated in class.
Word Count: | 250-500 |
Hyperlinks: | at least 1 |
Multi-media: | 1 Image or Video |
Additional alterations are as follows: Comments will now be due on Monday evening instead of Sunday evening & individual blogs will contain a formatted sub-heading (more on that in a bit).
FYI: Re-evaluation of Comments will take place during the second session of this week.
Below are the homework assignments for this week.
1) Your first post utilizing the new weekly posting standards will be a freewrite. As such, you will determine your own subject matter & write from whatever angle you feel appropriate. But, remember the following syllabus regulations:
All members of the course must commit to creating a place of study where everyone is treated with respect & courtesy. Everyone must share in the commitment to protect the integrity, rights, & personal safety of each member of the classroom & virtual community.
This would also be a good time to remind everyone that, while writing posts for this class, your language, attitude, & conduct should adhere to the same policies as in the brick & mortar classroom. Disrespect directed towards others in the virtual realm will be dealt with in the way same it would be if your were on campus.
2) Instead of writing a second post, each student is to alter their blog Layout so as to contain links to the main ENGL 1020 hub & the individual blogs of every student in their section. You may provide links to the other section as well, but it is not required. To perform this task, you will first need to go to your "Dashboard." Once there, click on "Layout" in the manage section. A screen will load that contains a schemata of your blog. In the side-bar section, click "Add a Page Element" & select "Link List." A new dialogue box will open in which you will be able to enter URL of each student's blog & a "site name." The "site name" should be each student's name.
3) 4 comments. 1 comment will be to this post. In it, you should forward a suggestion as to what the standardized sub-heading should be for the 1020 blogs. Keep in mind that, although your primary audience is other members of ENGL 1020, anyone with access to the internet can view your blog. You should keep this in mind when formulating your suggestion. 2 comments will need to be made to bloggers not affiliated with ENGL 1020. Perhaps, you could comment on 1 of the blogs you analyzed in class, a friend of yours that has a blog, or another blog you read on a regular basis. Your final comment should be to another student in ENGL 1020.
4) Please, make sure to bring the sample Reflective Essays from "RCWW5.pdf" to this week's second session.
FYI: Peer review & final draft due dates for the Reflective Essay are located in the post below.

Just wondering as to whether or not you're going to reduce the word count for our comment posts to 50, as we had discussed in class???
Here is my idea for a description:
A blog dedicated to the assignments for English 1020 at UCD
(maybe full name as a hyper link to UCD's homepage?)
I agree with Analisa that the blog discription should be "A blog dedicated to English 1020 at UCD" It is short and easy to understand
I think that the subtile should be "writings of UCD's english 1020 class, tought by Josua A Ware.
and include a link to ucd website as well as the class hub
I think the description should be something like. "An English student's assignment blog"
I agree with the above comment. It should be "the writings of a UCD's English 1020 class, taught by Joshua A. Ware." Including you're name is optional. Also, the 'UCD', if possible, could become a hyperlink to the UCD website.
I think it should be "Homework information blog for Joshua Ware's English slaves"
HOw about "Student Online Blog for English 1020 at UCD" and a hyperlink to the English Hub so online readers reading the blogs can follow up on what the information is pertain to .
I like FU's idea..."A Student Blog For English 1020 at the University of Colorado - Denver"... with the link to our main blog as the hyperlink for "English 1020".
Underneath our blog name it could perhaps read
"My blogs as a student in English 1020 at UCD"
I think it should be
"My blogs as a student of English 1020 at UCD"
It should say 'English composition 1 at UCD'
'English 1020 at UCD'
UCD English Composition1
Why we do not try to use “Joshua Ware’s English 1020 online assignment blog at UCD,” and the hyperlink for this head to the English hub. The online students or the others just need to click the hyperlink that go over the whole content. So the students will be easy to follow this assignment.
I think the sub heading should say University of Colorado at Denver;English Composition Student Blog
i like ronit's idea... the "Homework information blog for Joshua Ware's English slave" seems to fit pretty well
My suggestion for the subtitle is UCD English 1020 Weekly Assignment Blog.
Perhaps just it should be simple and short, An affiliate of ENGL 1020 (UCDHSC).
I think --> "Mr. Ware's Student Blogs for English Comp. 1020 at UCD"
sorry, about the other comment coming out blank don't know what happened there. My suggestion is similar to every one elses:
UCD english comp.1
Or something to that effect.
I think --> "Mr. Ware's Student Blogs English 1020 at UCD"
Blogs For UCD English 1020 is the ideal title for the class, keeping it simple and at the same time containing all the information to know what it is.
Not very different from others but simple.
ENGL 1020 BLOG
Clean and simple
A good subtitle would be : UCD English 1020 Weekly Assignment Blog
i think as long as it has a clear idea of the blog, doesn't matter what name we are using.
English 1020 UCD
English 1020 UCD Blog is a great subtitle. Why make the subtitle complicated, one should just keep it basic and simple.
English 1020 blog @ UCD
I like Nancy's idea. Something like that, explaining what it is and who it's for.
ENGL 1020, UCD Students' Blog
Pretty much what everyone else is saying makes sense... It should be clear that this is a blog for a UCD English class so how about, University of Colorado, Denver Core Composition 1 Blog?
How about English 1020 Gone BLOG!
I think the more simple, the better yet still all encompassing for what the class is about. I am not sure that Engl 1020 even has to be in it or UCD for that matter as they are in the title. I think the more concise, the better.
I think underneath our blog titles should be something like “Words of Wisdom from ENGL 1020 at UCD”. Because not only are we creating our posts for the class but also to share our wisdom with other’s and being vulnerable to outside readers who might find our blogs.
